This hike will be a relaxed pace to accommodate slow hikers\, with opportunities for Naturalist Interpretation\, Possibility of dessert at Silver Islet Store after the hike. The is a fee of approximately $21 for Ontario daily Vehicle Park Permit or 2026 Ontario Park Pass. (Alternatively\, a Park Pass may be borrowed from any Thunder Bay Public Library in advance. DESCRIPTION:From the Thunder Bay Lookout\, we will hike down a long steep hill to a flat section of land\, and then make our way to Claver Bay\, overlooking Lake Superior and the Sleeping Giant. Trail is very slippery when wet with some boggy sections. We recommend gloves and boots with a good grip for crossing boulders and loose rock. SUMMARY:Pines Trail\, Quetico Provincial Park
DESCRIPTION:Hike to the Pines on Pickerel Lake\, will start at the Pines Trailhead located near the south end of Dawson Trail (Ojibway Campground). The Pines Trail takes in a sandy beach guarded by a stand of majestic old growth Red and White Pine. This trail includes moderate to steep climbs and in some areas it nears the Pickerel River. The Pines is a spot on Pickerel Lake that has a beach where we will stop for lunch before returning to Dawson Campground. Please bring plenty of fluids and a lunch and wear sturdy hiking boots. An Ontario Provincial Pass or a day pass is required. Option to book a campsite as we will do another hike the next day. SUMMARY:Paul Kane and French Falls Trails\, Quetico Provincial Park
DESCRIPTION:We will hike the Paul Kane Trail starting at the North end of Dawson Campground (at the French Portage Parking Lot by the Log Cabin). We will continue to hike to the French Falls. We will be following the French Portage Trail. This hike into the past traces a portage first established by First Nations and later used by European explorers and fur traders. It was for a short time\, the main route for settlement in the Red River area of Manitoba and for further exploration west. This trail is long but has some steep climbs as it leads you to the cascades of the French River. Please bring plenty of fluids and a lunch and wear sturdy hiking boots.
